removing decals

Post by Dave Purwin »

just bought a 1982 10 Meter International.
I want to remove the brown decals from the whole back hull.
Considering trying a heat gun. Any suggestions?

decal removal

I own a sign shop and install vinyl on many boats. Using a heat gun is fine as long as you start low and go higher with the heat. If it burns your hand, it's too hot.

Mineral spirits and elbow grease work best. Allow the mineral spirits to soak in first.

hair dryers are more forgiving, and a straight clean razor blade...no digging with the blade now, just slide under....

take your time
