I have 2 friends with DDs. One replaced the DDs with Volvos in his Bertram 42. It was an "oil slinger". The other has had good luck with a pair of 6v71s in his Hatteras 40 - but did need a rebuild last year as the heads were warped.

Not my favorite, but I'm looking at a boat with a pair of 12v71s in it right now ... I don't think they're bad if properly maintained and not run hard for extneded hours.
