painting interior

Post by dmatz »

I painted my 72 last year before launching. I asked the counter person at my local Lowe's store what they recommended and was told to use a latex
home interior paint (you can also buy the same paint at WalMart for less).
I did the work while it was in storage in an unheated building where it was very cool. It took a long time to dry. I would suggest doing it outside when it is sunny and warm. The only problem I have had was behind the vinyl cushons of the davenport in the salon area. The first time I went to move them they stuck to the paint and pulled it off. I plan to recover this area with vinyl. If you cushions are fabric you probably would not have this. This will be the second season and when the paint finally dried there have been no problems. It is also easy to touch up if you need to. One last thing. My 72 has imitation wood grain material that resembles formica.
If your 79 has actual wood this may not be a good idea.

Why would you want the paint over all that teak anyway, you’ll just ruin it.

Last fall i removed the gelcoat from water line te keel
3 week a go my specialist in fiberglass did some sanding to remove marks left from the grinding of last fall. In may most of the hull was pretty dry. But where the longitudinal beems it indicaded 40 % umidity on the tester ( skipper plus). The beam were change in 2000. I then applyed 4 coat of interprotec paint and 2 of antifouling. The boat is now isolated no more osmosis. I hope it will hold.
