out of sequence HIN?

Post by sponge »

On the edge of purchasing an F32 - I am in the process of purchasing a 1977 F32 and have noticed the HIN is not in the correct sequence, the model is at the end of the HIN and the HIN on the boat registration is missing some digits. Also the stamped HIN on the transom is not very straight I would think the factory would have a very legible stamp process. The boat was brought from FL and registered in NC. The HIN has a total of 12 digits not counting TRJ.
Wondering if this is the work of a sloppy thief or I am just being too critical.
Does the number sequence of the HIN vary on older boats?
