is it worth it ?

Post by pmphoto »

I have a chance to buy a 30' fibreglass Trojan, it's been sitting in a field for the last ten yearts, the hull seems good but where the deck and hull meet is rotting and the molding is comming off, the inside id trashed due to weathering and animals, engines are twin 318's.
Is it worth it? any advise would be veryt heplfull.
Thanks very much and happy boating!!

*Is it worth it?* depends on you. Even if the boat is very cheap, and from your description, the selling price should be very low, you should consider what alternatives are available for what it will cost to get this rig in usable or re-salable condition. From your description, it sounds like this one will need a total re-fit. An avid -do-it yourselfer could easily spend over $20,000 and many hundreds of hours to get this boat in good running order. Likely it will need new fuel tanks, deck & cabin structure, probably engines, transmissions, electrical, plumbing etc. Some people take great satisfaction in a restoration project. Other people just want to get on the water. If you want to restore it, carefully list all the projects you can see, and estimate their time and cost before jumping in. Remember, even if some things don't look too bad on the outside, when you start taking apart an old boat, you find all kinds of unexpected surprises and most of them are not good.
Good Luck,
Chuck
