Wooden VS Metal Steering Wheel

Post by Planter »

Hi, can anyone tell me what determined which steering wheel was used. I like the all wood spoke ships wheel which I once thought was on all Trojans. Now I am finding that so many came with the metal with only wood handle tips. Could any mid 60s model have come with the all wooden wheel? Can a metal wheel be replaced with the wood and still be considered original and would it fit the shaft the same? Many thanks, Greg :D

The Sea Skiffs & Sea Breezes (plywood versions), came from the factory installed the wooden steering wheels. The planked Sea Voyagers were equipped with the stainless steel wheels with wooden posts. I also changed out the stainless wheel with an original wooden one I purchased on Ebay. The keyways and shafts are exactly the same.
Good luck!
