Express 306 Vibration at 2000 rpm and above

Post by Dollarbill63 »

Looking at purchasing a 78 306 Express w/ Chrysler 318's.

Vibration from engines is in my opinion excessive. MY opinion.

What is a major cause of this.. what do i need to look for?

Thanks in advance

Hard to tell - I'd leave that to your Surveyor..

Well...... I did make him aware of my concern

I did. I mentioned that. He said inline's vibrate like that. I am used to inboard / out boards and outboards and had a V drive Carver.. but none of them vibrated like this sucker. Is this normal? Is there an increased amount of vibration with inline's that I should not worry about? Props looked good during the haul out.

>He said inline's vibrate like that. Who is he? The previous owner? The surveyor? Vibrations can come from bent shafts, props, engine mounts loose or out of alignment or a worn out cutlass bearing. From the engine itself, misfire is a possibility. Does it vibrate only in gear or also in neutral? You could try to find a similar boat to compare vibration. Caution is the best policy if something doesn't seem right it probably isn't.
