flybridge wiring and removing of possible shorts.

Post by chauzer » Sun Dec 12, 2010 6:24 pm

okay, as most of you know i removed the flybridge off of my f30. i pulled the wiring harness down from the top and stashed it in the side behind the starboard side panel. is there anything that is going to have to be "dead ended" or wired together so everything works on the lower station, etc?
i never traced the wires to the panel so maybe it would be just as easy to remove the whole harness (?).

gotcha on the thread title!! and you thought it was going to be naughty!

I would make sure that there were no possible hot wires to short out. If it is a harness then I would remove it.

I think you will also have to change your oil and temp sensors on your engines. I believe they are set up for 2 gauges and will not work correctly on just one.

And don't seal up any holes in the top with white 4200, it turns yellowish. Maybe 5200 will hold it's color?? Anyone??

The 5200 I used has held its color for several years but the 4200 turned yellow over night.

I have 5200 on my top side around the front hatch, no yellow here. All is good.

5200 turns dull slighy yellow to me the quick dri 5200 seems to yellow some ( not as bad as 4200).
4000 stays glossy and it looks good overtime . looks better then 5200/4200 from day 1

i filled the holes with great stuff foam (never again) and then covered them, top and bottom, with marine tex. it matched quite well with the roof color. the only opening i'm still puzzled about is the big one where the wire harness runs up but i have a few ideas.
thanks for the info on the wiring harness. i would have never thought about the dual sender for the temp gauges. i have to keep the wire for the mid-ship light, the rest can be fired.
anybody need a flybridge?!

i know this is an old thread but i have a question. if disconnecting the top wiring harness to the gauges do i have to change the sending units? today we had an electrical issue in which the flying bridge wiring harness shorted out and totally fried the harness. i totally unhooked all the port side wires from the junction box upstairs . i will probably wait till we pull the boat to totally rewire the upstairs do to time constraints but would like to use the boat till then

Depends on the brand of gauges . Most need a different sender. But on AC I believe you need a different gauge for single stations . What year and what gauges ?

This may help
