After my overall learning experience and exposure to boats & boating I have come to the following personal conclusions:

Gas outboards are great.

Now, take the economics out of the equation for a moment.

Other than a "day" boat, say under 10,000 lbs, any inboard system especially with a generator should be equipped with diesel engines.

Today's diesels offer far more reliablity, safety and longevity than any other alternative.

Now, add back in the economics and the entire picture skews back to reality.

There are limitations to what can be done with a 454 gas engine. Increasing the HP per cubic inch of factory displacement creates ancilary issues that will have to be handled, or there will be consequences.

I know there's more to it than just the mpg thing king dude  But with this boat and not keeping her as the retirement boat its not worth 50k to change it over so if I ever have to repower it'll be reman 454's

fastestonehere wrote:my screen name has to do with Drag Racing...but i have been 7.70et @ 182mph but thats not impressive to you im sure... even if it was done with a 4 cyl. 2.0L 112 cubic inch more than 300HP per cyl. no nitrous. so what i am doing is by far not pushing the bar. but something that takes my mind off drag racing. it just to much fun zipping around the lake with the family
Never seen a drag boat with a 1,200HP 2-liter 4-cylinder in it ...
