Boats Left To Rot

Post by foofer b »

Everyone has seen them. Boats left to rot. Makes me sad. Makes me wonder why, what and how. Here is one such beauty that I saw while enjoying my dinghie's maiden voyage on B;lack Creek, Florida.

Your dinghy looks great in the water Foofer.

Sad sights and all too frequently seen. Probably a victim of the economic downturn and a dream not realized.

Owens where wood and when they made glass they became concord .

Yes it is sad to see , I saw a 40 foot ocean in despair sat for a lone time like that . tried to contact the owner , owner had no interest in selling '

My F30 was in despair , a guy bought with big plans to fix it up even bought a remain engine for it . He got over whelmed with it and behind on shore rent . so it it sat again . I traded a ready to go 25 sports craft for it fixed it up it was a great boat sold it 6 years ago when i got my F36.

the F30 sits again if it has 25 hours on it 20 where in the slip SAD. The SC 25 I trade for it ? it sat too I bought back for slip rent and sold it again to someone that use every time he could

Some folk Just have to have a boat , but they are not boaters .

that the reason behind the saying in my signature

"Some folks have trouble letting go of apron strings , with others its dock lines "

We have had a lot of abandoned boats over the past 3 years with the recession - mostly sailboats, but some power.

In some cases, the owners can't afford dock fees, so they simply anchor them out (some are quite large and valuable - 40' Morgan for example).

This lasts until the 1st big storm, and they break loose, or get pushed into the marsh or onshore, where they tip and fill with water.

After that, the owner often is disinterested, and you can try to work out a salvage. My wife has forbidden me from getting 4 sailboats now - which is probably a good thing. If you get them quick enough, a good power wash will clean them up, and the wiring may not be too bad.

We've had several (5 in the past years) sink or be washed into the marsh and abandoned. Then the State has to clean them up.

have you looked at the price of used boats lately. we bought our F32 for a song one year ago, however, had I waited, I could have bought twice the boat for 25% more today.

Our F32 was near abandoned, and as described by previous posts, that being the owner was behind in slip fees and later found out, still owed money on the boat. he didnt have the money or interest to maintain the boat. We made a very low ball offer and the PO begrudgingly accepted it.

I have the boat in a slip in a private club, and in a pretty nice place, and, even in these economic times, there is still an 8 to 10 year wait for a 36' slip. tha being said, we really had an interest to keep my slip more than buy the boat, but, I am a boater, true and true, and I am mechanical, and cant stand to see a machine in disrepair. so, we have slowly brought "LARK" (we bought her on a "lark") back to life. I intend to repower her with diesels, and am in a quandry about sticking money in the mercruiser 228's, yet they really need manifolds, risers and exhaust hose / tubes. I have one diesel now and wont get my hands on the other until this fall, so It looks like I'll have to stick at least 1000 into exhausts to keep her running.

There it is- someone says "diesel" and half the guys jerk their heads around like when I say "ball" to my Jack Russell, and then the thread is doomed for hijacking!!!

Prowlerfish,

I am sorry if I offended, I was just kidding. I could care less where threads go, that is part of the fun here, seeing threads veer and turn. You should know by now I am always trying to be funny on here. Whatever any or all of you wanna talk about, it's OUR FORUM. Don't EVER, and I repeat to all of you , DON"T EVER take anything I say seriously, or take offense, as I am usually trying to be witty.
