nice surprise.

Post by TBone »

I have been slowly digging through my new F-32, prepping it for transport. I was under the impression that the boat was powered with 318s, raw water cooled. I never paid clos attention to the motors as I was planning on re-powering. I took a closer look last night and found that they are in fact, FWC 360s.

My original plan was to pull and toss the motors (old, salt water use, no FWC) and replace them with some small block Chevy motors.

now seeing that they are infact FWCed, I think I will take a closer look. I nosed around the engine bay numerous time and never gave a second look at the motors until last night.
SWEET!

im not gonna lie, Im both disappointed and embarrassed about it. When I was talking to the PO, he was saying that the original power was 318s, he did say that the boat was repowered.

As far as the motors, my original thought was pull them, being older, and RWC. I have been in there looking and tinkering with the generator, batteries, inspecting the saddle tanks, trans, shafts.... the list goes on, I never looked at the motors themselves. ooops

anyway, I may well still re-power the boat, but I will at least attempt to get these motors running.

If you choose to part with the 360s make sure you get some good money for them. The flywheels on those are hard to come by.

Question, does the 360 have a different flywheel than the 318s?

Yes the flywheels are different, the 318 is interally balanced and the 360 is externally balanced. The 360 flywheel has a big hole in it.

Reason I as I have two good 318 flywheels, and they are also hard to find.

+1...I say rebuild them if possible as parts are still available for them. It'll most likely be a much easier and cheaper solution than a repower to a different brand.
