Interesting deal on craigslist

Post by guglielmo6160 »

came across this ad today and went to take a look

http://fortmyers.craigslist.org/lee/boa/3347760749.html

he wants 2K, needs engine work on both engines, heads on one engine and it is apart, the other is complete and he claims it ran , but poorly. Everything else is there. I took a look around the boat and seems to be a good deal for the money. I did notice a lot of growth under the boat, which may or may not be an issue. I also noted a couple of soft spots on the rear hatch, which I know is a common problem, but besides that, seems like a solid boat, The owner seemed a little stand off ish,, as I thought of taking some pics, but he didnt like that idea, why ??? I don't know. If I didnt have so many toys , and a couple of extra docks, I would pull the trigger.
Any thoughts?
and it has a Gen,,,which looks a lot better than mine,,lol

Looks pretty good. Is it a clean machine? Heck for $2 that could be a nice project boat.....if the engines could be rebuilt....if not, one would need to be able to do the engines themselves or they could easily put another $10K doing engines alone......

I would be able to re power that boat with a lot less than that, its a mechanics dream. But you do need time and patience. If I wasnt in the middle of re doing my interior I would jump on it.

If you were really into the F-30 permutation this is the vintage to get it out of IMO. That being said, I much prefer the 28 like Larry in Texas has.

From '74 to '81 in a Trojan I like.......

26 Hardtops
28 F/B's
32 Sedans
36 Sedans
44 S/F's

There is also a lot of other excellent models in that year range. Not the least of which the 25 & 30 footers, the MY's (including the 36 tris), and espescially the very rare pilothouse trawlers and not as rare center console Marlins. (I want a Marlin very badly.)

I have extreme issues with anyone selling a boat like that for $2K, unless it is like the one Torcan posted about yesterday that had the fire and sunk (and should still sell for more than $2K after that!).

Tomorrow I will decide to crap on everyone's parade, or just keep my mouth shut.
Seller says "cash only" gonna find out later the boat is
1) stolen
2) real owner is on vacation
3) something doesn't smell right,
4) all of the above
5_ none of the above

Didn't want pictures taken, standoffish, all red flags to me

No pics is spooky. Cash? Not as spooky. Less spooky if you can take pics and the price is more than 2 grand........

i actually like this model. i looked at one about 3 years ago and found it very comfortable for a 30' boat, but, for 2 more feet, the f-32 is a better deal in my opinion.

Not a clean machine , I would not worry about cash only , you would be surprised at the people that want you to take payments when t you sell something . Of course you always want to make sure of a clear title/ or fed doc. not just a bill of sale .

What would make be carefully is "needs engines" . if it needs both , it may have gone under . Big bucks if you need to re power , if the engines and manifolds are shot . Not not a boat you could flip for a buck . more of a money pit IMO

I didnt get the impression at all from the owner that this was in any way a shady deal. I buy and sell many things, as we have a re sale store here in town. What I can tell you is that there are a lot of characters out there and what he means by cash, is no payments, deals or trades, as we spoke about this. I dont know why everyone thinks this is shady? sometimes people just want to get out of there boat, because they have had enough. Not everyone has unlimited funds and not everyone should own a boat, its an endless money pit, and if you dont have disposable monies you get rid of it cheap, as in this case,
some of your comments are a little strange.

You are the one who started it with the cash only and no pictures comments. I think the folks here gave you some pretty good feedback and cautions based on the info that you originally provided. I didn't see anyone age bashing or class bashing, so while you don't have to like the opinions given, its not like anyone here was deliberately picking on the seller.

the cash only comment is in HIS listing not my positng , all I mentioned was that he wasnt comfortable by me taking pictures of his boat unless I was going to buy,, maybe I should have clarified . At least thats the impression I got when I asked if I can take some pictures , he wasnt to comfortable.
not a big deal,,,
just strange how everyone seems everything is always shady,
I just didnt get that impression,
sorry if I upset anyone
