Is this near you? I assume you've followed or heard of this story over the years? How tragic, yet so close...to be found 20 years later.

Sad but I'm sure it's closure for those involved.

That's a pretty clear image on the bottom. How deep is it in those canals?

The story said the car was in 18 feet of water. Agreed, closure indeed!

i find it hard to believe or understand how it took so long to find this car. I know technology has come a long way, but I remember they had adequate systems back then to . And how did not one person see that car go in? or see some type of indication ??
At least they have closure, what a disaster, and sad story.

Much of the water in our area is like coffee. Only 1 to 2 feet visibility. This could easily happen especially in the summer. With our rains and and how fast the vegetation grows here, tracks going in could be lost quickly.

the specific location where this happened was at the time sparsley developed.

It is possibnle that the victim suffered from dimentia, some other impairment or may have had a heart attack or stroke subsequent to the event.

Or it may have been a suicide.

Some of these canals are very deep in places, some less so, especially at the "edges" where the canals are bordered by seawalls.

these canals are a minimum 100' wide.

In the time it took that car to sink it is likely that the forward motion speed sufficient to get both axels over the seawall was enough to get into the middle of the canal before sinking.

Gasoline & motor oils, transmission fluids, may have leaked out slowly and the daily tidal currents could have taken any surface pollutant out with little notice, especially as this happened when that arewa was sparsely developed.

Sleeping with the fishes is right !
