nor did i know it even existed. if it was produced, it was probably in very low numbers. anyway, it's the 1981 duel mode trojan 40 with a cockpit added to her. another design to add to the trojan book.

i'm not sure paul. i wonder if it was a prototype and only one or two were made. maybe bob knows as i think this vessel, the duel mode 40, was produced in elkton, md. i've searched google and yachtworld and have not seen any reference to it except the ebay listing and my post to the site. other than that, it's almost as if she does not exist. a phantom trojan!!

I wonder if its the same hull as the 47 Trawler? They didn't make many of those either.

thats the perfect boat! I love to own that boat, only powered by some nice new cummins motors!

you mean the original 'meridian trawler' design? those were different molds. this is a cockpit extension to the basic 'duel mode' 40' flush deck fly bridge motor yacht. the duel mode hull was trojan's answer to the fuel crisis in the late 70's. there are currently two for sale on yacht world. the pittsburgh one i've had my eye on for some time. i love the layout, but, at 40', it's just too big for me. unless i moved aboard.....

The PA one sure looks interesting. I'd have to add 10 feet onto my dock though. Easy enough, but I am at the max of 60 feet right now and would need a variance to build any longer. I don't know if they would give me the variance or not. I could get up to about 38 feet as it is now, but I wouldn't want to go more than that without building. If the right 12 meter Conv. came along I'd get that thing on there for sure though.

Those ain't trawlers, they have go fast gas engines in them, and I'd hate to see the GPH burn rate.

True as far as I know too, But gas burn on 36' and up on any model sucks....

A friend has an 11 meter with 454 Crusaders.

While these engines may have been adequate for a stripped down boat, they seem to be lass than ideal for a loaded cruise.

Photos show that she seems to not achieve her most ideal running angle.

Perhaps its a propping issue, I don't know.

As a result, the boat is generally operated at displacement speeds.

Just before pulling the trigger on my refit I offered to do a "trade" and was turned down flat.

Now that boat sees very little use.

At that phase of the reviewing process I was toying with the idea of pair of Yanmar 370 HP engines.

Perhaps a tad much for the 10 Meter, but these would have been absolutely ideal in the 11.

yep, Hi-jacked ! But O'well..........Gas'r engines are just not the way to go for anything over 32' and even then if I was buyin' new I'd look for oil burners. As some know if I ever runup on a good deal on a set of oil burns they'll be had !

It's just with all that heft plus a 16' beam, well that's a lot of boat for a pair of 454's.

she would get much more use and plane more efficiently with diesels.

Imagine that boat with the 370's !

would have been one sweet ride.

I don't think it was a slam at all, Gas was cheaper back then and oilburners cost to much as an option to most folks and truly if I known now when I bought my boat I'd never bought gaser's

Shoot diesel fuel was cheaper a few years back now its more on land and about the same on the water .


The cummins 6BTA 370 is a nice set up in the 11 meter too . I saw one up in St Mikes , sweet .
