Transport An F30 Convertible

Try to find out if the flybridge on an F30 has to come off for transport. I know it's lower than an F32 but does the bridge still have to come off if using a low boy?

Yes it does.

Here is my two cents of research.

I looked into it for my F30. Boat is 14 foot from keel to top of flybridge. Once you put it on a trailer the height exceeds federal transport guidelines.

I was told bridge would have to come off.

By the way, I do not know what a low boy is - is that one of them hydraulic lift trailers - I talked to one of them companies too and they went out and measured it.

Oh and another point - the F30 sportfish is lower than an F30 flybridge express. I have seen the sportfishers on trailers before.

Well I"ll make it easy for you. The f30 convertible fly bridge can not be taken off. The fly bridge, cabin, and deck are all molded together.

Doug, please explain. From what I can see, it is not one molded peice. There is clearly a separation of components from a visual stanpoint anyway. Do you have any literature or drawings that might help?

Dave, I measure 13' 6", even less if you remove the rail on top to the apron that holds the windshield and wraps around the sides. Still, don't know that it will be low enough. A low boy is different from the hydraulic trailer you mentioned. A boat must be loaded on to it unlike the hydraulic trailer that can pluck a boat out of the water on its own.

What year are you looking at? Is this an 80 or newer F30.

Well, my 78 flybridge comes off. I looked into removing the rail and windscreen as you mentioned and determined it would be a royal pain to do so. Its almost as if you have to remove the flybridge to get to some of the mounting hardware on the sides. I think it could be done if one had really long arms and was a contortionist.

Dave, I suspect yours may be a little different. Do you have salon doors or is it open from the helm to the aft deck/cockpit? If not, your bridge is much different.

This is the one I am talking about, the clean machine. Out of all the F30's I think this is the only one that could be called a convertible.

Big D, are you talking about this one?

If it is the F30 sedan (above) than the flybridge can be removed

from keel to top cannot be taller than 13'2 or 6" not sure which. Hydraulic trailers are great in that you can set it on the hard without a crane. That said they cannot carry a boat any lower than keel to top, I don't think dragging the keel on the asphalt would be a good idea. I have had a boat transported by hydraulic and is the only one I would use, easy to put on hard and pick up again.

Doug , I feel the Later F30 is more like a convertible then the Clean machine . But thats just mine opinion .

I agree. In 80 model Trojan added salon doors - thus, a convertible.

Otherwise the F30 clean machine and express models have identical cabins.

I never understood the term clean machine. . . I always thought it was the sportfish

I hear you Paul. Here is my reasoning-

Convertible simply means that the vessel is equally at home fishing, and cruising, hence it is "convertible". Like the F36 and F44 sportfisherman

If I had to label the F30 Sportfisherman I think that it is really a "Flybridge boat", A 28 Bertram, a 29 Phoenix, and the 29 Blackfin are prime examples of flybridge boats and I think the F30 and F28 fit nicely in this category.

Sedans are boats that emphasize accommodation space over cockpit space. They are designed for more cruising than fishing. Like the F30 sedan and the F32 Sedan

Express boats have a helm behind the accommodation that is open to the weather. Like the F25, F26, and F30. Add a flybridge or hardtop and you get a "flybridge express" or "hardtop express"

Anyway, that's how I see it and why I think of all the F30's the F30 sportfisherman is the closest to a convertible.

As you can tell- slow day at work
