You just can't make this stuff up! I had just finished the first coat of non-skid on the bow and cabin sides, I hadnt even put the roller down yet. I heard a loud pop and then broken glass!! the one of the 4ft lights directly above the bow (Yes the one with wet awlgrip!!!) burst and the entire lite came crashing down on the bow!!!!!!
Then the lights (about 12 different lites throughout the shop flashed a few times. So here I am with Glass all in my fresh awlgrip and now I need to shut all the lites off before the one above my boat catches fire! Not a Good day!

Had to run out before I finished the last post. I ended up getting a lot of rags and used the awlgrip reducer (solvent) to wipe off the worst area. The pictures above dont do it justice, glass was everywhere! I got about 85% of the glass out and eneded up mixing up more paint and recoating the area that I had wiped off. I had used a small digital scale to measure the non skid and the inital time had used four, 8 ounce paint batches with exactly 1/2 ounce of non skid in each batch. I was rushing to redo the last area (in the dark using a headlamp) and didnt measure the non skid like before. The fixed area has less of a texture and stands out. I'm thinking of trying to put another coat with the correct (or slightly less) amount of non skid over the fixed area to try to blend it in better. I know I can put another coat with non skid everywhere and get it to match but I was trying to keep the texture less aggressive to reduce dirt. Plan C is to spend a day sanding everying off, 4 hours remasking everything and start from scratch. :(
I have been in my shop for over 10 years, In my entire life I have never seen a bulb spontaniously burst, and what are the odds of the one lite, directly above the bow, blowing right after I prep and completly roll the bow !
Well I guess the bright side (pun intended!) is that I was not under it when it happened!
Hope everying had a better day than me today! :D

Thanks! As long as no one turns the lites on before I fix them and burns the shop down tomorrow should be better! :D

As my 13 yo would type... OMG!!!

That is wrong on every level, I feel your pain and sure you wanted to smash something to bits. It's so frustrating to plan every detail (successfully) and then have something like that happen. We all have stories, my recent one was spilling a container of sawdust onto my last coat of Cetol on my swim platform. I save it from my palm sander and use if for filling small holes. Totally my fault but it was in the same place for the other six coats :(

Was at the shop at 5:30am this morning. I first disconnected the the melted "lite socket" and got the lites working. very carfully used my hands to locate the glass shards then took a plastic putty knife to remove all of them. I put a second coat of awlgrip over the entire bow but with less non skid in an attempt to blend everything. I then went and sprayed a foam job for a customer and returned to the shop at 2pm. awlgrip was dry (used an accelarator) . Rolled a final coat of awlgrip without nonskid to lock everything down. Looked good when I left? we will see tomorrow!
