How do you get the cover off this thing?

Post by boatsnbars »

I want to take the cover off my windlass for cleaning and inspection. It's old school, but it works fine. Can't figure out how to get the cover off. Please disregard condition of the teak, it is on the list.

Answer! Don't know, I don't have one but; your teak looks as bad as mine. And its the first thing on my list. Did the swim platform last fall.
Season is short, we make the best of it.

Thanks, I will look for the push pins. As far as teak goes nothing some sandpaper, Sikkens and my wife can't handle.

Thanks Tom, I will let you know if I need the hammer. No push pins. Looks like you have to unbolt it from the rope locker. Tomorrow's project.

Heres my old windlass. Screws to remove the cover are on the bottom.

Got it off yesterday. Two long bolts thru the deck/pulpit. Four screws to loosen the top, a big hammer and a torch to remove the capstan. Cleaned, greased and working fine. I will sand blast and paint before reinstalling. I needed that hammer after all Tom.
