Sea Pump

Post by Diverted Income »

I need to replace a sea pump on an '82 Mercruiser MIE 230 (Chevy 305). The original is a part number 46-71497 which I believe has been superceded to 46-72774A32 and I believe the Sierra cross is 18-3600. Can anyone confirm the newer Merc number and or the Sierra? Obviously the Sierra is cheaper and would go that way if the mounting is the same with the 3 protruding bolts that act as studs for the mounting plate.
Thoughts anyone? Or what have others used? Current pump leaks out the weep hole as the seal must be gone. Would like to rebuild original as a spare but need a complete unit to swap this one out as boat is mid trip stranded in a harbor, due to high water. Had shut the boat move down.
Thanks!

I just purchased a new Jabsco pump for one of our 305s - part # 43210-0001. We pulled out the crappy Merc. plastic one that was falling apart, and difference in quality is almost frightening!

We ordered ours from here: http://www.marinepumpdirect.com/servlet ... 001/Detail
Best price/ shipping I could find. Other places were selling the same pump for anywhere between $380-700!! It arrived in 4 days (we are in Alaska, so that's pretty fast), and we will be installing it soon.

just 1000002 other items on the checklist before we get to that

Nice pump Melissa,

I've still got the original plastic style pump that I'd love to upgrade to one of these pumps. Is it a straight swap out?

Paul - I don't know yet. I am looking at them sitting side by side, and the Jabsco one has some slight differences - but overall the dimensions are the same. I will have to wait and see how much cussing goes on when its time to install it :)

Got the Sierra on the way. Should have it in hand today. The Jabsco looks even better though!
