Look at the storage compartments in the previous picture by the drill, they were just painted but before that I had major rot on the floors going right through to the engine room.

Here is a couple shots of that issue

Image

At this point I cut out all the rotted wood and this is the soundproofing underneath, notice the circular cutout in the corner, that is for the exhaust fan that gets mounted underneath...

Image

This shows the sound proofing material I ripped out that was lining the ceiling of the ER below the rot

this is underneath on starboard side pulling off the wood underneath

Image

so after ripping all the rotted wood out and nasty sound proofing, I put 2 coats of resin on 3/4" oak plywood and screwed that into placed

Image

Then from the top I put 3 coats of resin with cloth down, solid as a rock now, this procedure was done on both sides, it seems the stansion bases holding up the bow railing ALL leak so thats why all the rot

Note to self...

Handheld grinders spin very fast.

When said grinder is spinning, never ever touch grinder to hand even when wearing gloves

good news, this was more like a burn, no blood!

at this point every thing is out of the engine room.

I hired 3 young guys, one was an electricians apprentice and 2 body work guys.

I paid them $150 each to spend the day sanding down the entire engine room, well worth the money, that was a grueling job.

Image

How bout some pure engine metal BLING!!!!
I spent a couple days myself stripping these blocks down

Image

Image

I polished up the intakes too, I know they will turn green again, I read somewhere people paint them, any comments on that?

OK this is my 100amp Blue Sea battery management panel. Its mounted in a 1/2" starboard box which is mount on a 1/2" starboard panel that is like 22" tall and 6ft across. I will mount a lot of the electrical components and heavy wires on this panel

Image

Image

I put it on a hinge so it drops down for easy access, sorry its a little blurry...

So for the most part, all wires will be mounted to the ceiling of the engine room, I mounted some 1/2" x 4" x 12" starboard strips to the ceiling, this will help in keeping everything organized. I mounted them all around the perimeter of the engine room.

Image

Notice the new exhaust fan mounted in the corner, also that is all new soundproofing on the ceiling on the outsides where the wood was rotted and replaced, that stuff is very expensive, bout $350 per roll, and I have already used 2!!

First of all I'm jealous because I have always loved the 13 meters! Call me crazy but the engine room looked pretty darn clean in the before pictures! looks awesome in the after! nice job. Good call on doing away with the rats nest of wiring, you will never regret it! Keep up the great work and please keep posting pictures.

Doug,

Keep the photos rolling. Love that big rig. I drove to Toronto to view the 13 meter that was listed for sale by Beaches marine. Lets just say that is one big mother out of the water. Great job.

This is a great thread and is a good example of what can happen as a result of a boat becoming neglected or poorly maintained.

Maintenance is constant and let's face it, these boats are getting older every year, LOL !

After it's all over, Doug will have one amazing 13 meter at a total cost far less than new, and with zero depreciation or interest costs !

On top of that, there is not a 43' boat made today with this kind of layout, versatility and usability.

She is incomparable.

PERIOD !

I was on an '87 Wellcraft Portofino this January in Florida. It's 43 ' in length and about the closest I can think of - but they made most of them with 454 gas power (they also put cats in them) - Haven't been out underway in either, but I will say that the 13 m Trojan is a lot of boat.

I believe the one I was looking at in Toronto (featured a custom hardtop with electric sunroof for offshore running) has sold because it's no longer listed in the Beaches Marine website.
