John Deere 6068tfm75's in an F32

Post by DAVIDLOFLAND »

Hi guys, Long time, no post. I hope everyone is wintering well.

Does any one know if John Deere 6068TFM75's have ever been installed in an F32?

Thanks,
Dave

The 6068 is a pretty tall and pretty long block to fit under the floor of the F-32. but wow, what a great engine

There's a good deal on a pair locally, and was just wondering if anyone has ever put them in an F32.

The 6068TFM would be great engines if they fit (and inline-6, which naturally balanced and fit width wise easier). They are Marine engines ... http://www.deere.com/wps/dcom/en_US/pro ... M75_A.page heavier for 201HP than my Cummins 6BTAs, which barely fit height-wise in my F32 - check the heights ... but could get more HP with Turbos ...

Check out Craigslist for Anchorage, Alaska, and search John Deere in the 'boats' section. 2005 models, never installed, stored inside office, with ZF Hurth gears, and 2 harnesses and 2 guage panels for one helm. He'll take $35k. I've offered him $25k.

nice engines.... IMHO- not right for the f-32. Very tall 35" and if i recall correctly- low power ( I thought 150-180 hp max at 2600 rpm)?

I agree , they are a heavy engine , these turbo engines are in commercial tune . A great engine for a heavy non planning hull . I have currently a pair these in the 4cly version under my care . They are in a 49' yacht . great engine IMO.

While not the ideal choice for a F32 They would be hard to kill , A severe duty engine doing light duty job
.
I have not measured these compared to a barley fit Cummins B . But if I get a chance I will BTW the B is 5.9l vs 6.8 for these .

What ratio are the gears ?

I was just wondering what the 49 footer was.

Defever , trawler The owner (a good friend ) will do most his own work but consults me on any questions or issues . We had some bugs to work out on the engines when he first got it . a strange noise that was said to be normal by the survey and a trans leak . Noise was a coolant pump , trans leak was a cooler that was lose in the bracket . These run like a top and do a great job pushing the boat . they are 150hp btw

btw the engine room is walk around :D makes life easy

the ad says velvet drive and there were some other questable info . Maybe a uninformed seller ? I would put my hands on before any money . find out what gear he really has . any gear above 1.5 to 1 won't work for you as your limited on prop size . even a 1.5 maybe to much .

The CL ad is indeed inaccurate, as the seller is very uninformed. The engines were purchased by the seller's brother in 2005, and the brother has since passed away. Ad says Velvetdrives, when the trannys are ZF Hurth. The ad also indicates the engines are v12's, so you get an idea of how much he knows about them.

Anyway, you guys have been very helpful, and have confirmed these packages are not the best choice for an F32. At the very least, I would have to buy different tranny's, as these are 1.99:1 with up-angle output (What's with that anyway? V-Drive application maybe?). As mentioned by someone, with the small prop constraint on an F32, a shaft RPM of around 2400 is necessary for a 20+ kt cruise.

up angle ? most ZF are straight or 8-10 deg down a A after the number means down angle .

Angle looked weird to me too. In the image, you can just make out the angle on the tranny on the left. I looked at them in person, and the output flange definitely angles up.
