New Owner of '69 Trojan

Post by jstorrer1 »

Greetings to all of you on this site!!! I am new to the boating world, wife had boats all her life, but I don't have a lot of experience on the water. Last week we purchased a '69 Trojan boat. I have not had the chance to look for the serial numbers, so I am not sure exactly what I have yet (but have seen nothing like it on this site as of yet). It's a 30' or 31' fiberglass hull. The interior cabin is all mahogany, and in beautiful condition. The cockpit is completely encapsulated with wood, with quite a few pieces rotted away in back where exposed. I believe this is all white oak, not teak. Previuous owner repowered her in 1990 with twin 350 Chevy Mercruisers and Velvet drives. He was a toolmaker, and made everything out of Stainless Steel, including exhaust system and twin 55 gas tanks. I am looking forward to fixing her up a little and slaying some Walleye and Perch out here on Lake Erie.

Jake

I will try to post pics, wish me luck!!

From the deck up, it's not a Trojan. That's all a custom superstructure.

In '69, I don't think they were using fiberglass yet, so not sure what you really have. Production glass models started in 70 or 71 I think. I guess it's possible you have one of the first glass hulls ever molded (not production), that someone finished off with whatever superstructure and interior they wanted to build. The hull color as well - from the factory they were all white, so this is either a repaint or something else.

Also, the dual hatches on the foredeck are completely not standard Trojan.

Found out that original owner put the custom top sides on when he had the boat repowered in 1990. There are no Trojan tags inside as the entire cabin was new at that time as well.

Thanks for the info!

I'm not 100% convinced that is an F31 hull, but it could be. In any event, what you have is unique!

If the previous owner did this rework in 1990, they must have decided to take an axe or chain saw to the original deck and superstructure for this rebuild.

Even if the hull was glass, the superstructure would have looked something similar to this in 1969. Watch what you say... this is my parent's 1969 28' Sea Skiff.

If you are asking me Paul... Sea Skiff. Folks owned it from about 1976 until 2000.

If you are asking the original poster... don't know if that is a Sea Raider or not... The deflection strips and rub rails near the transom look right but hard to read the rest of the hull in that colour / striping.

Structure is very Marinette like. Wonder if the PO used 2 to make 1?

I have a few folks at the marina stop and ask me if it's a Marinette. Looks a lot like one, maybe PO did combine the 2 boats.
