While it would not be good to lose the boat, that is only 20 -40 thousand. Most would recover from that. I think the liability potential is reason enough to carry insurance.

i have had agreed value on both my trojan32 and my current carver405. i had boat us for several years but last year i got a quote from markel insurance and they beat boat us by several hundred dollars with equal coverage and the same agreed value. really was suprised at the price difference.

Check to make sure partial loss is at a discounted value vs full value for 100% loss ie stove loss 15 bucks vs 500.00

Mine is insured as a commercial passenger vessel. LOTS of liability coverage.
