I thought it was the filter for the on board swimming pool.

The more that I think about the idea of a sea chest, the more I like it. Just like an AC or DC electrical breaker/distribution panel, you have one location for all of your raw water supply lines. This type of arrangement would be great for servicing and troubleshooting.
