Prop Maintenace Performance Improvent

Post by AwayOnBusine$$ »

Anyone tried to coat the running gear with some type of spray to reduce build up and improve performance.

I have used the zinc grey spray paint on my running gear..and now I only use it on the upper portions of my shafts, upper portion of the rudders and the hub portion and nuts on the props. I see no real difference other than more clean up in the spring when it is all painted. Best way to keep them clean is to use them :D

One thing to note, I use Hydrocoat on the bottom. We learned at Defender's warehouse sale that if you use bottom paint on metal, you should prime it with some barrier, otherwise the copper in the paint and the metal counteract themselves and become ineffective. I guess that is when I decided to use very little on the running gear and spray the zinc on all my through hulls and strainers, and make sure I use her as MUCH AS I CAN! :D

Hope that helps,
