Is oil a renewable resource?

Post by Torcan »

Interesting read,
comments? debates??

http://www.cfact.org/2012/09/19/is-oil- ... -resource/

The widespread use of the term “fossil fuels” is a deception created by anti-energy propagandists and earlier theorists to make people believe that oil is the result of countless dead dinosaurs and decaying vegetation. Oil, however, is “abiotic”, a term that means it is a natural product of the earth itself “manufactured at deep levels where there never were any plants or animals.”

and ends with:
The Earth is not running out of oil and likely never will.

I've heard this before. That article alone doesn't convince me of anything, in fact I have a few problems with it. I've read a little about this guy and his thoughts on other subjects; global warming, etc. Haven't really formed an opinion on this and other matters except that I prefer to take the "safe than sorry" route. It seems who ever is writing something has some sort of agenda so it's difficult to separate fact from fiction. Right or wrong, it still boils down to consuming responsibly, and remembering that we still have to dispose of it safely even if there is an endless supply. Ten miles down it's safe, on the surface it's not.
