not to bring up bad memories.... but could you link the thread in which you talk about almost losing your boat.
Thanks and I am glad you didn't lose it.

my longest trip
There isn't one . But here it is To make along story short . on June 1 this year I was running about 20+ knots starting to turn to starboard . all of a sudden the boat made a violent turn to port I thought something came loose in the steering . I came of the bridge and lifted the hatch and I just knew she was gone. The water was about a 1 1/2 to 2 foot deep (over my knee ) and a hole 4.24" X 5.25" where the Rudder box should be . I told Steve ( the one other person on board) to put out a mayday . water was coming in fast . I grabbed a life jacket and tried to stop the water flow not having much luck until a piece of wood floating by I was able slow the flow so the pumps could maintain the water level . I had Steve call a near by marina to get a lift ready and to try to run the boat there . with No Steering he asked ?. we traded places if was no easy job to hold the life jacket in as th top of the rudder moving in the hole. I started to run to the marine at about 1-3 knots we seem to be gaining on the water Steve said both the boat bow was low and to boat was leaning badly. I am on the cell phone telling no yelling at the marina to get the lift ready . Fire boat is on the way . told them to have there biggest pumps ready . when the came along side they told me to stop so they could board . I see no pumps . I ask are your pumps ready ? no . they said they need to see what they need . I reply your biggest fn' PUMP!!! call me when it's ready ! I pick up the rpm to about 4 knots I know its up to me and Steve . The fire boat stays close to my side ( a good feeling) but unless I see 3" or better pump I am stopping. The boat feel like a bowl of jello trying to turn in to the marina 2 more turns I see The lift ready a dock full of people 3 or 4 pumps I aim the bowl jello for the lift I smack the dock , I don't care as the say any landing is a good landing . we get the straps tight an pumps going 30 minis to a hour late shes high and dry. I am exhausted , I take the next day off to hose of and go Thu a half case of WD40. for the next 4-5 days or so I work on the boat ( I know if I stop its over with ) I work before work and after till well after dark. I know Its time to slow down when I fall over. I have pneumonia . I miss a few days . I got back to work and work on the boat its slow at work so I leave early and only work on the boat till 9 or so . On June 13 early after noon We put her back over . I take her back home. I will never be the same.
In the water I do more repairs a/c system fresh water / shower pumps .
July 1 We cast off ( me and Janis) for a easy week on the bay all goes well till out last day I blow a hyd line for the steering do a vise grip repair to get home . Aug 20th? I run her hard up the bay to the Trojan Rendezvous . after we run her hard to places we have never been over a week $922 of diesel and not a hic up out of her She is better the ever
I have added a EPIRB and a 6 man canister life raft
I never felt like posting this before But I guess its about time I did ,
Thanks for asking about it

thanks for sharing I am sure we can all learn from your levelheadedness. Do you know what caused the rudder box to come out?

I ran her to Marina cove . I was my way to Dandy Haven for my normal haul out . This happened at night (7 pm ?) and all yards were closed. But Marina Cove keeps odd hours and I have the owners cell phone Number .alexander38 wrote:Dang ! Paul that was right after we met at the Severn marina. Where did you run her to ?
this happen a week after I was at the Severn
What happened ? well it did have small leak under the stuffing box . That just started and I was going to address on haul out .I just thought it just need to be resealed . but I belive it was cracked around there and poorly repaired before . and it let lose . did I hit something ? maybe ? I will never know for sure .

I did not have time to pucker or get scared I never even put on a life jacket ( it would have couse issues working) . I just thought I have the dingy on the bow ( that would have taken a hour to untie LOL) I did come real close to letting her go down and did fact think she was done.wowzer52 wrote:I'll bet the pucker-meter was pegged for awhile.
