+1 on the stranded.

Our 1975 F36 has a lot of solid wire that looks to be original, so worth a check. I am slowly going through it and replacing with tinned marine stranded wire with crimp lugs. Check out http://www.bestboatwire.com as a potential source of appropriate wire.

If you replace the wire from the inlet to the panel, be sure to use something a little heavier like a 12/2 stranded.

If the vessel's service is 30 amps (30 amp inlet/cord), it needs to be 10/2 plus ground from the inlet to the panel.
