The box by exhaust: Internationals with 671’s

Post by BeaconMarineBob »

Ever wonder what the box was for by the exhaust on Trojan Internations with 671’s ?

Johnson & Towers made Trojan add the box to a lot of the Internationals. 10.8, 11, 13, 14

They did this because another boat not a Trojan had a engine blow up because water got into engine through exhaust port.

The idea is that at a slow speed doing a hard turn water could be forced up exhaust.

Do you need it probably not. Does it help maybe.

If any one needs one I think we have a port and a starboard.

When I upgraded my 10 meter from Crusader 454 gas engines to Yanmar 6cylinder turbodiesels, John Leed suggested, no, HE INSISTED that I add a vacuum break to the factory side exhaust system.

Leed kindly provided a tool to enlarge the side exhaust holes in the patented Schoell at water line exhaust system to allow for better breathing by the new diesels, AND he provided exhaust elbows that included an additional "port" which now goes to an additional side through hull fitting, located above the water line, therefore eliminating the opportunity of an engine ingesting seawater in that fashion.

Thought I'd share that tidbit with y'all.

I always get a kick out of occasionally seeing a fish coming flying out of it's hiding spot in the exhaust when I crank up the motors sometimes.
