1987 10.8 Meter Sedan Salon windows leaking

Post by salty1995 »

New to the forum. This is my 3rd Trojan. I had a F28, F32 and now the 10.8. My last boat. Great boat but my side windows leak during heavy rain. Storage cabinet on the port side and storage compartment on the starboard side, just aft of master control panel will be wet after heavy rain. The window "channels" are clear. I have no idea where the water is entering. Thinking I should take a hose, spray it on the windows and try to track the water. Frustrating. Thank you.

my 10 meter was fitted with outriggers

water would come down and run over the top of the gunnel sound/air barriers (plywood) which eventually rotted, allowing water to enter the cockpit, or in your case, the salon.

we don't use the outriggers so last month we removed and glassed over the holes

now replacing the entire boards now with 1/2" plasticboard.

running the boat without them is PLENTY LOUD :)

Look for any missing screws or hardware , gaps in between the window frame and fiber glass .

also

check the plastic air vents - just above the gunnels.

There should be a plastic "box" attaches to the back of these.

That box keeps rain or wind driven water water from coming in.

If they are missing, broken, or no longer tightly attached, the result will be water intrusion.

Same thing if they are INSTALLED UPSIDE DOWN !!!

The port vent had a "piece" of plastic on one side. Nothing on starboard. I'll start with that. Thanks.

google

"boat vent collector box"

this attaches to the vent

holes should face UP

make sure its all sealed together as a unit

make sure the actual vent on the outside has a good caulk joint
