1987 F32 TEMP GAGE

Post by dab62 »

Hello all. I am having trouble with my starboard side temp gage. It is slow to register, and it will only go up to around 140. The port side is normal at around 180. This affects upper, and lower readings the same. I have replaced the sending unit( it is the correct one, thanks to Bob). the connection is clean, and tight. Any ideas on where to look next would be greatly appreciated. I have used an IR temp reader at the thermostat housing, and she's running where she should be. Thanks in advance for any ideas.

140 is normal for an open cooling system and 180 is typical of a closed system. Do you have a closed system and if so could it be that you have the wrong thermostat in one engine?

It is fresh water cooled. Possibly a wrong thermostat, but I don’t believe so due to running for a couple of hours on a hot day. Not to mention the reading from the ir gun.

Did you shot the temp gun right at the senders ? Are you running a 50/50 coolant mix ?

I had something along these lines, turned out one of the gages was not compatible with the other , google how to check your temp gages , then you can cross them off the list.
