Refitting a 1976 F-32 Journal

Post by BradZ »

I though it would be good to share the progress of the refitting of my new to me 1976 F-32. I started gutting the cockpit deck and it has the typical rot on the perimeter framing

Wow. Looks amazing. Is that the original swim platform or did you build it?

That is the original swim platform. I'm adding a ladder and will post pics when it's done.

All the old decking is out and now its time to replace the top of the bulk head and rotted framing. Has anyone replaced the celotex lik material Trojan used between the stringers and under the plywood? I'm thinking some type of foam board would work good.

Looking good! I started a F36 last year and lost interest after my wife’s medical issues took a temporary turn for the worse. Hopefully you make it farther than I did!

Your work is looking really good. I've been doing similar stuff on my own F32 for the past 30 years. I'm not sure how to view my earlier posts over the years, but if you can it may give you some ideas and inspiration. Good luck to you!

I'm doing the same thing this winter. No rot on the stringers that I know of but the teak deck is shot. More to come in the next few weeks.

Bulkhead is cut out and the new parts are made. Finally going to start putting things back together this weekend. Replacing all the rotted White Oak below the Sliding Door/Salon Deck. And all silicon bronze fasteners. Once its in I'm going to redo the fiberglass tabbing on both sides of the new bulkhead. Plan on using epoxy resin and 24 oz woven roving cloth. Then everything is getting a fresh coat of paint.

I plan on making the hatch opening closer to 48" long so I have better access to the bilge area and can pull the tanks in the future.

Had a productive day today. As always I didn't get done what I hoped to but still made good head way. I have the new bulkhead done under the sliding doors. Everything lined up nice and straight too. I used hot dipped galvanized carriage bolts to make it better than the factory. All I need to do is glass the tabs on both sides and then paint both sides of the bulkhead to finish. I also patched in the port side vent box where it had rotted out by the transom. I used thickened epoxy to glue the old tab to the new plywood. I scuffed the back of the tab with heavy grit sandpaper to make a good bond. Now I can finish the framing the pattern the deck pieces so I can build the deck at home. Sorry about the side ways pictures I can't figure out how to make the load right.
