This is happening right now

A shot of the dumpster with the guts

My deck on the lower cockpit was soaked with water and rotten throughout

My marina is handling this one, back is all cutout, old rot removed and sanded down

Coosa board will be used to rebuild

They were re-pitched twice and I'm still off 150 rpm's

Not sure the size off hand, will get back on this

I only run 1850-1900 so I don't push them

Doug,

Thanks for the update! Boat looks great. The work you've been doing on that 13 meter is very inspiring. Always done first class.

Thinking back to ancient history and the fiasco you had with the motors and here we are now in 2019 and you're running the boat offshore. All things work out.

That generator looks so small down there in the bilge, because that hull is so massive. I've only been on and around a 13 meter once but it made a lasting impression. it's just a terrific design and I'm sure I speak for most of us when I say that we're glad you are doing what needs to be done.

All the best in the coming year

OH MY ! ! !

After all your troubles, it's so good to hear about your successes.

I felt really bad after turning you onto this 13 with all the issues you had, but seems it's turning out nicely.

I did a cosmetic refit & replaced my genset this year - went with a Northern Lights.

Couldn't fit it in with the sound enclosure - your roller/rails idea is BRILLIANT !

Instead I went with a flexible, soft sound enclosure:

http://stopthesound.com/generator-sound ... d-shields/

Used the same helm gauges as I had for the previous unit

Now that you have her back in reliable, working order, consider the VALUE of what you have, in what is essentially a NEW boat.

Imagine what it would cost to replace her with a NEW boat...……..

And folks scratch their heads when we repower these Trojans...…

I'm the second owner - now in my 18th year with this boat

Original owner bought her right off the Miami Boat Show floor, and had her for 18 years as well.

What we do to these boats is not something that would even be considered if they were a Searay or similar.

When we turn the key, fire up that genny, leave the dock or hang out on the hook, we, and our guests have a SAFE and RELIABLE adventure.

BEST to you !

Nice work on the boat, especially with the genny. What do you do with the exhaust when you slide the generator on the rails?

I am in love with the genny on rails! What a terrific idea. The boat really came together for you and looks down right amazing!

Great info/post!

I've just acquired a 1987 Trojan 13 Express Hardtop here in Canada (On Lake Ontario). The boat appears to be in good condition and only 900+ hours on the 6-71's. I'm anxious to get it in the water come ~mid April. I'll definitely look to your posts for some information and also share my experience/and issues with the boat as well.

Most of my initial work will be aesthetic/entertainment additions, this being said, I'm sure I'll need to put some $$ aside for maintenance and unexpected mechanical work.

Cheers,
Simon

Simon,

Congratulations! I know that boat. I looked at her seriously about five years ago. I ended up buying my current '94 Trojan 370 Express from the same broker.

At the time the 13 meter was owned by a contractor (I believe possibly a Dutch family business perhaps) and I drove down from Ottawa to view her at possibly the Port Whitby Marina (or somewhere around there) in the early spring. It was up on it's cradle and it was incredibly big and beautiful on the hard. What a machine.

The really cool feature for you is that this 13 meter is a hardtop. I was told by the owner of North South Yacht Brokers I believe, that the hardtops were rare and were popular bluewater boats because the hardtop kept the salt spray off the passengers. Please keep us informed of your adventures.

Cheers

Rick

@Doug - Your boat work is outstanding and on point. Been through your timeline a few times. Don't be alarmed if I ask you a thing or two. ;)

@Rick - Thanks, i see a lot of potential with this boat, I was concidering a few diesels at the time and this made the cut. Now the more I read, I feel validated.
