Emblems and gelcoat paint color

Post by Jimmy »

Two questions:

1. Emblem: Going to try to replicate or re-finish the old Trojan emblem as well as the 11 meter emblem. Cannot find any replacements other than vinyl. Rather be as close to OEM as possible. Thinking 3-d printed will be an option how do I remove the original? Glued/screwed on from back?

2. Touchup paint: I have a few nicks, dings, and areas where the gelcoat is gone. Black base peaking through. I have already used the gelcoat paste/ putty, but in some of these areas that is too thick to cover and look nice. Hoping to put a few light coats for touch up to hide the dark areas. Does Awlgrip have a color that matches pretty close?

Snowed in Michigan last night so naturally started thinking of boat projects to tackle....

I bet there are many of us who would be interested in the remanufactured emblems.

If you come up with a replacement let us know.
We were going to try making vinyl ones this spring.

The Internation Insignia was attached with a two sided tape. See photo.

Ok, whatever tape they used, ill start using it to fasten all my hardware from now on. That stuff is impressive. Im going to try a little light solvent to soften it up so I can pull one off. I will then try to get it replicated using 3-D printing. Just need to find one that can match the colors (chrome) affectivly. If successful, perhaps we can get batches ordered with volume discounts. Stay tuned.

Thought about vinyl as well, but not the same.....
