Cable adjustments?

Post by Briank117 »

Hey gang,

Is there any adjustability with the throttle and shift cables? Specially upper helm controls? I haven’t pulled anything apart yet—just trying to come up with a game plan.

My scenario:

My Lower controls work flawlessly. Zero issues. However, while using my Upper controls which are nice and smooth, issue is my starboard shifter rarely goes into reverse when I need it to. I need to “search for it”, going between neutral and what should be reverse 4-5times before it engages.

Also, Upper helm throttle cables bottom out at around 1000rpm—where I can jump down and pull the lower controls back a tad more to idle (750).

Thoughts?

Thanks

Hi. I have similar issues with both trans and throttle cables on 36 Tri Cabin (77). There is a lot of wobble in both, but more noticible in Transission levers when trying to stern dock. Also hard to find neutral. Will follow this link. Thanks.

Sounds like you have exseveve play somewhere . It could at the cable ends a worn shifter or the cable it self .

Under the shifter, I removed the cotter pin & backed the barrel-nut off about 6 or 7 turns. Problem solved! :D
