F36 stringer repair

Post by Footeloose »

Good morning all. I'm about ready to start installing the new stringer, which will be laminated out of plywood, & epoxied in as it's installed. I have cut the Fiberglass top off the original stringer, leaving the sides in place, so I have a channel to fill with the new stringer, along with epoxy to seal & strengthen everything, as well as bonding. Maybe a goofy question for y'all, but has anyone ever thought of just cutting strips of roving, & laying them in the channel, wetted out as they are installed, & just replacing the old wood with solid fiberglass, as maybe it should have been done originally. This seems like a good plan, since it certainly would be strong, & pretty simple to lay into the channel cavity I have exposed. Definitely totally bonded, & waterproof!! Does anyone have anything negative about this process, or heard of it, or even done it this way? I welcome any thoughts or input anyone might be willing to share. Thanks again for your continued support. Hasta be one of the best forums out there. Gooday, Dave
