10.8M International Shore Power Question

Post by jfgkahaluu@gmail.com »

I had been running shore power just to #1 but installed a splitter today. Switched from just 1 to 1 and 2, everything seems to be working on both the left (1) and right (2) side of the breakers but the volt meter at the top of the breaker panel is only showing for Left (1). Right (2) is not showing any voltage. Any help is appreciated!

On the factory setup, there is the "1/2/Both" switch. Do you have that in the correct position? When I re-did my panel, I got rid of that switch because I exclusively use a single 30amp splitter like you. If for some crazy reason I needed to isolate one side, I'll just unplug on end of the splitter.

Yes, turned the switch to 1&2 from just 1. Like I said, both sides of the box are working just that above each side of the panel there is a volt meter and the #1 Left Side shows voltage but the #2 Right Side does not show voltage. I am just wondering if it only shows if it needs to draw from both?

That still give you 30 amps total. The 1/2 switch is the equivalent of taking the panel from 110volt to 220volt. Our generator puts out 65 amps, so it can handle the load of the whole panel. At the dock we use 2-30 amp circuits which also give us the full capacity of the panel at 60 amps. At a lot of other docks we use a 50 amp splitter which takes the 50 amp 220 line and converts it to 2 separate 50 amp 110 lines, which again, gives the full capacity. There is no value in using the "2" position with only one power source.

Volt meters can break.

An easy check is to apply 120VAC directly to the suspect meter terminals.
I needed a less expensive hobby, so I bought a boat!
