77 F26 Tilt Out Front Cockpit Windows

Post by Boppy »

Been thinking about installing gas springs to one side of these windows to assist in opening them. They’re heavy and I’m not getting stronger in my old age. Any ideas?

You may have issues closing them with the gas springs Also one side they could break closing them. I seem to remember a post where someone installed an electric motor and worm gear to open.

I have been using gas springs for years
but I have no idea what F26 front windows look like
If you post photos I may be able to chime in

Here’s a shot of the starboard side of the starboard tilt out front window. Both windows have the adjusters on each side. Windows weight approx 25 lbs each. I’m thinking one gas spring rate around 10-15 lbs on one side of each window would ease the manual force needed to raise and not impede lowering the window

can't tell much from that close up photo
one thing to consider is the strength of the hinges
If you have a gas spring on one side only the hinges will have to be able to handle that
Also on its own a gas spring is either fully opened or fully closed
I don't know if you will be able to have a spring and an adjuster on the same side

I have often made mock ups before committing
the geometry, length, and force needed can be tricky

feel free to ask questions

Thanks. Just realized my photo was the port side. I must have been standing on my head when I was describing things. :?
