Spring - the first step
Up to the marina by 10:30 this morning. Off with the shrink and wood, a rye. Up with the bridge enclosure. A rye. In went the batteries. A rye.
8 degrees C, no wind, clear skies. Spent the day in a tee shirt.
Did I mention a rye?
A good day, loved it.

Spring
And here I thought it was you Canadians sending down the cool weather we've been having for this time of year. Mid-forties F a lot here -- warm for you I guess, but we don't wear tee shirts at that temperature down here.
Just got mine "splashed" this past Wednesday. Just have mooring cover on, waiting for new canvas.
Happy Spring!

felt it coming on sunday as i was baking in the sun on my deck on the lake. hehe...should have known, just as we're supposed to get a full week of sun.
anyhoos...have a question: how much boating time do you'se guys up in the great lakes area get in a year? is it too cold to get out during the winter months at all?

TC-I sure hope the boat doesn't get in the way of knocking back a few ryes. (I haven't heard anyone mention rye since Don McClean in American Pie-but last week the Pittsburgh Tribune Reiview had an article about the emerging market for it, and then you mention it in a post-if one were to try a rye-which one you recommend. Not that anything will pull me away from my beloved Appleton Estates V/X rum, but it's nice to have a fall back position when a watering hole doesn't have V/X-which is common)

Georgian Bay season
May 1st to Nov 1st is comfortable. Some guys add a week or two at each end, Nov is still OK as the water is still warm unlike the start of the year.

We usualy try to start about the middle of April till the first of Oct. At our marina they shut the water at the docks off Oct 15 and close the showers and rest rooms the end of the month. Lake Erie can get pretty riled up at times by then anyway.

My marina is going to try to get my boat in tomorrow-2 days of rain has crimped their schedule. The leverage is, they have to get to a boat to work on that 3 other boats & mind are blocking, so they have motivation to move me out!
Got a coat of anti-fouling on Monday, put 2 coats of wax on the hull yesterday & today. Will work on the topside once I get it to the dock. The marina's storage facility hours are the same as my work hours, so once I get it in the water, I can work on it in the evenings.

The hardy folk start dropping boats in late April early May, one was being launched while we were there. But an awful lot don't get wet till after May 24 weekend and into June. Our marina wants everyone out of the water by Thanksgiving Weekend, the Canadian Thanksgiving ( Oct ). By that time you can't count on the weather for the weekends and you wouldn't be in swimming. Besides winterizing that late in the season can be miserable. You gotta love cold, wet steel and fibreglass and cold, wet hands, with the wind blowing up your butt and out one ear.
As far as whisky is concerned, I use to be a Crown Royal enjoyer but someone steered me to Forty Creek. It's distilled near here in Grimsby Ontario by Kittling Ridge Distillery. According to Whisky Magazine it was rated #1 in 2008, and noticeably cheaper than the big guns.
