worked on a friends 36 this weekend. he was having problems with the motor stalling at low rpms.

we've changed all fuel filters, plugs, cap, rotor and the intake choke spring and metering rod.

starts fine, idles in nuetral, but when you put it in gear it stalls. if ya pick up the idle a little it seems ok. Need advice!!

It is possible there could be something on the prop causing it to be excessively hard to turn, or the transmission clutch plates could have been overheated causing them to stick and making the transmission hard to turn.

Are you saying the engine does not keep running while shifting in and out of gear while docking?

Incorrect timing can also cause low torque at idle.

Check your timing as mentioned. If it's OK, check to see if all cylinders are firing by running the engine to temp, then pull one plug wire at a time from the distributor. If the cylinder is firing, you will note a drop in RPM or performance, you should hear a difference. Reinstall the wire and move on to the next one. If no change is noted when you pull one of the wires, that cylinder is not firing. Had this issue before and turned out to be 2 bad new plug wires after a tune-up.
