Oil change kit for 454 Cruisaders

Post by CaptMike »

Hi all,

Can anybody recommend a good pump kit for my crusaders? From where I can see the drain plugs, it looks like a permanent draing plug pump system would be a huge pain or impossible. I would need a dipstick tube kit.

I like having a system with a remote hose from the bottom of the oil pan. I just don't think you can suck out all the gunk in the pan from the dip stick tube.
But, you have to start somehwere.... Go to a local farm/ag store. Buy a 12v 5-10psi ag pump. they make explosion proof ones. They are only about $65. Get a 4' hose about 1/2 ID and plumb to one side. Get another 1/2 ID hose about the same length and put a NPT pipe fitting on that end. Get a reducer to go down to 3/16 OD hose (you will need this for the dip-stick pump-out). Empty a couple of milk jugs and pump out the old.
When its empty, take out the plug from the pan. Go back to farm store or your local NAPA store have them make you at least a 4' line from hydraulic hose with an end threaded the same as the oil plug and the other the same as your NPT pipe end on your pump line. Get a NPT pipe cap to and then install this hose on your engine.
Next time you need to change the oil, you just remove the cap off the installed line and hook up your pump.
I also reverse the pump lines and pump the new oil back in.

Check out the pics on my Photo bucket page of my oil changer system. Really simple setup, and I pump both engines right into a 5 gallon bucket then carry off. Takes 7-8 seconds per engine to remove all oil.
