Cleaning heat exchangers

Post by AndyF32 »

I seem to have a build up of salt deposits in my heat exchangers. I currently have them out of the boat and was wondering what the best method was to dissolve the salt.
Thanks

I had very good results from an automotive rad shop. cleaned, (boiled out) pressure tested and repaired a couple of internal tubes.

Try capping off the hose openings and mix some hot water and some CLR (calcium, lime remover) let soak and flush. May require a repeat.

I've used this procedure to clean out clogged heater cores for years.
