1973 trojan sportfish 32, 318s, need help

Post by crazyhorse »

I have recently had every wire in the boat replaced and all new gauges. I think the boat has 318 engines. What is a normal oil PSI reading? Do you need to split the temp sender wire for each helm or can the wire run, sender - gauge - gauge?

The hoses off the water pumps are kinda "J" shaped and the pump end is larger than the tank end. Any idea where to buy new hoses? I have hoses I pieced together now, I would love to replace with OEM hoses.

How do you load pictures on this site?

Thank you!!

Hello crazyhorse

I had 318s at one time and have since replaced them
but I ran mine until they just wouldnt go anymore
there good engines
oil pressure should run about 25psi idol around 50-60 running speed
my guages are wired as you mentioned sender/guage/guage
and have no issue with that, they seem to read correctly
as far as hoses is this raw water cooled?
any crysler marine dealer should be able to get replacments if you know the hose number most parts stores can get them too and a little cost savings
hope this helps

25psi at idle and 50-60psi at speed is excellent oil pressure.....bottom line is you need about 10psi per 1000 rpm minimum. So idle could be 10 psi and WOT should be around 40 minimum......in most case higher is better but 10psi per 1000 will protect the engine.............

I agree with you john should run abut 10psi for every 1000 rpm
mine just seemed to run higher as metioned above
right up to when the port engine thru a rod
but it had 3427hrs on it
replaced them with 5.7 MPIs and it runs SWEEEEET!!!!
