1/4 or 3/16 packing?

is the 1/4 or 3/16 the correct size packing for the f32 with the 1 1/4 shafts? i have read both

Can't find a reference in the manual, but I have been using 3/16". Don't know if vintage makes any difference either - mine is a '79.

My info came from buckalgonquin they make the stuffing box . this is asuming you have the stuffing box that uses the large nut and lock nut like what came with the boat ( then its 1/4 packing ) if its been replaced with the type that use 2 small bolts ( one on each side ) to tighten the packing then i would be 3/16 packing
