I agree, looks really good but I love being on the bridge! Keep it up, it's going to be worth it!DAVIDLOFLAND wrote:Looks kinda cool w/o the flying bridge, but I love the upstairs on a pretty day.

I am curious how you manage to "spot heat" areas that you are working. I need to do some glass work in the transom area and I need an ambient temperature above 60* using 105/205. I was going to get some heat lamps, or use some halogen work lams focused on the work area, but I worry about leaving it unattended over night.DAVIDLOFLAND wrote:Problematic as the temperature and weather is, it's still doable by heating just the areas where I'm working.

Re: INSTANT FUN REPOWER IN PROGRESS
Days 8 and 9, sound deadening installation. Mass Loaded Vynil Barrier. Not much to share image-wise, except the one I added of my wife spending day about 3 or 4 with me in the bilge. I have had some very good luck. One, buying an F32 25 years ago when I was 30 years old. Two, marrying this girl six years ago. She works six days a week and then spent her day off hanging out with me in the bilge.

I don't the the word "bilge" is even in my wife's vocabulary, nor do I think she has ever seen one.

Looking good! Is that sound barrier fire rated and if so, do you have a link?
Thanks.
Thanks.

Several flavors of MLVB can be found on the internet. The stuff I found locally is made by Sound Seal (soundseal.com).
Physical date sheet says MVS 302 Burn Test - Pass: Self Extinquished
I pound per square foot at $2.44 per square foot.

Re: INSTANT FUN REPOWER IN PROGRESS
Day 8 - Installed the panels to the forward and aft bulkheads in the engine room. Panels will accommodate electrical and fuel supply components to the engines. Panels are hinged at the bottom for easy access to the backside.
Day 9 - Removed ladder to flying bridge, unfastened cockpit deck, and attempted to remove deck. Deck is frozen in place (how'd that happen in Alaska in Winter?). Broke an 8' 2x4 trying to pry it up. Said effit, and came back to town to watch the Super Bowl. Will thaw and remove the cockpit deck next weekend.

Re: INSTANT FUN REPOWER IN PROGRESS
...How was it getting to the forward corner nuts holding the cockpit down? Just trying to get to the corners and sides over the aft fuel tanks was tight. Or, maybe you just cut them?

Long arms and a long ratchet. No problem really. I've had the deck up six or seven times in 25 years.

When you get that deck loose, good luck lifting it... Bring a few friends; it's a beast. I tried to lift mine and all I could do was slide it to one side.
Re: INSTANT FUN REPOWER IN PROGRESS
I'ts 14 degrees in delaware today with a -5 windchill. Finally hit my "pain" threshold and decided it was too cold to work on the boat this morning (and im regretting my decision because I still know I would have made some progress!).
do you know if the MLVB sheets you used offer thermal resistance as well? I used a foil faces foam with the mlvb between my engine room and cabin but it was expensive. I want to put something on the underside of my engine hatches and deck to reduce noise as well as heat transfer.
Hope your making out ok in Alaska!

Re: INSTANT FUN REPOWER IN PROGRESS
Weather is slowing me down too. I have the fuel tanks and exhaust ready to go back in, but did'nt quite get them in yesterday.
The MLVB I used is just the 1/8" vynil only (sold in a 54" x 60' roll), so not much heat insulation, if any. You would need to use the product that includes the foam and foil to get heat insualtion as well.
