NoLand Engineering RS11

Has anyone purchased or used this product? I've been thinking of giving this a try and hooking it up to my Garmin 740S thru the NMEA system. It seems as though its an easy way to integrate the engine monitoring capability of the Garmin into the existing system of gauges without changing or adding sensors at the engine.
Any feedback would be appreciated.

Look into Actisense too. Distributed here by the Fugawi people.

I've looked into them both, but have not made a move on either of them. It's a great concept, but I cannot bring myself to justify the cost when I have working gauges right in front of me. Although couple with a fuel meter, my SIMRAD can do some efficiency metrics.

With that being said, I was considering rebuilding the helm on my previous boat and going with multiple touch screens instead of a gauge cluster. One of these units would have been the centerpiece of that setup.

Okay guys I need some help here with understanding what we are talking about. I have a Humminbird 1198SCI which is supposed to be NMEA 2000 compatible. What I think I am understanding is that both of the thread mentioned devices can take sensor data from our old analog type devices, OP, Voltage, Temp and Fuel tank or flowrate and convert to as signal (sentence) that 2000 NMEA compatible devices can display or act upon, is that correct? :?

If so the charge is cheaper than specialized sensors for those same displays. :)

That is correct. As long as the NMEA devise supports engine parameter display.

I like gage clusters, at the very least they are good to have as a back up system but more and more people are going this route:

next years project is making a new dash and new gauges, just making sure i have an "endless" list of crap to do on my boat! LOL

I have purchased and use the Noland RS11. Its makes a great engine interface. I use 1 RS11 to monitor both engines. I placed the RS11 next to the terminal screw pannel behind the lower helm. I run the NEMA-2000 network cable up to my flybridge and have two Lowrance displays mounted there. On one display I show GPS with an overlay of the port engine RPM, Oil Pressure, and Temp and on the other the depth chart with an overlay of the starboard engine. Then, on the bottom of each screen I show the the fuel burn rate, miles per gallon, and remaining capacity of the related tank. I put it in 3 or 4 season ago and its worked fine ever since. I really like not having to keep glancing to the right to see the guage clusters for the engine (on my 73 F36 - the guage cluster is not behind the wheel like you would expect it to be, its off to the far starboard side).

I have the same setup as P-Dogg. Works well, however it does take some calibration. I find my self struggling to trust it at times. We never did get the Rpms dialed in quite right, however we did just put in electric ignigtion on moth engines, not sure it that will read more accurate than the mechanical ignition. Real good concept and would love to be able to trust them 100%, I would redo the dash on the flybridge to a couple touch screen displays.
