Need help finding Fuel Pump - Gray Marine

Post by todd brinkerhoff »

I had a 1961 Gray Marine 327 (AMC 327) rebuilt. During the initial start-up, the fuel pump is not working properly. My motor guy is having an issue sourcing a fuel pump. Any help or suggestions?

No they marinized them using GM built 6-71 . I have worked on a few of the Gray 6-71s

You may look for a automotive pump as the they maybe same back then , many marine fuel pumps are double diaphragm as where older cars . "But use caution and your better judgment " Of course you could go with a marine electric

Also look for a kit as the older pumps could be rebuilt ,

The gray marine website has been a no-go so far. Left several messages and no response. I'm thinking of going to a marine electric so I can finish this up. Sourcing parts for this engine has been challenging.

FWIW the 287 and the 327 are basically the same and using the 287 in a search weeds out a lot chevy stuff

Todd, I had the same problem....I ended up getting a rebuild kit for mine but it didn't last very long......I ended up going down to the auto parts store and picked up a pump that is exatctly the same minus the glass bowl.. I could have put the glass bowl on the new one if I had seperated the bottem section but that was too much work. It's been working fine for me the last two years. But if you are still in need of the old original one, I have two grey's that I purchased for parts since they are so hard to find. Anyway, they both have the original fuel pumps on them...............Let me know...
