1974 f32 floor rebuild info needed

Post by blackfin »

I just picked up this 1974 f32 with no floor from the engines back. Id like to return the floor to original but have seen a few versions of hatch orientation. It looks to have had plywood flooring over the engines but i cant tell if it was plywood or what outside the sliding glass doors/above the tanks. Im redoing the inboard stringers now and will be ready to build the floor next.

Sorry, can't help with the f32, but my 1977 tri-fly used only plywood for the interior flooring and rear lower deck. Of course the upper decks are glassed over wood/balsa.

Good luck with the project!

In the salon area, initial construction was plywood over wood frames, with carpet stapled to that. Some have reworked the salon with upgraded carpeting, or teak, or teak and holly, but base construction is still plywood over wood frames. I think the framing was oak (I have actually snapped some SS screws trying to drive them in with a drill without pre-drilling the hole!)

Aft of the sliding doors, initial construction varied by year. Early F32s up to about 77 I think (+/- 1 year) used teak over plywood for the aft deck. After that (my '79 for example) use a fibreglass cockpit liner with glass hatches, and a bit glass section that can be removed to pretty much fully expose both tanks and all other mechanicals (tanks, fresh water tank, steering, mufflers, etc..) under the aft deck.

Most of the F boats (regardless of model) followed this construction model - early 70's up to 77ish used wood for cockpits, beyond that they switched to glass.

Just a note -- when I say plywood, that is marine plywood (not whatever home depot has on special...), and I think .75" or thicker. Might be able to measure this weekend if I get a chance.

+1 . I have a 75 32f salon needs a back deck and the bow needs to be redone as well. Some soft spots. I was thinking of doing a full glass back with a large access door like you did there. Just dont know how to completely support the hatch door to handle all of the weight
