I believe you would win a civil suit.

He's NOT going to pay for a lawyer

You get a judgment against him

He can't sell his real estate

I wonder what other titled items you could attach to

I'm confused.... Are you switching to 8v71's or 6v71's?

8v71tti

Manual says 8v71ti is 462hp

But I have the tti (twin turbo)

I think they are more HP

I did some more measuring today

My stringers are 31" on center and so are the engine mounts for the 8v71's

I have a total of 34" in between the 2 inside stringers

The 8v71's are about 30-32" tall above the engne mounts, I have 36-42" clearance to the deck

Also this boat came with 8v92's as an option, since 8v71's are smaller, why wouldn't they fit?

better pay good attention to the design of your exhaust system.

don't want to be replacing turbos OR ENGINES because of a bad design !

This may be critical as you address moving engines fore/aft and change the weight distribution of the boat as well as how the raw water gets out of the engine and STAYS out.

Wow, that's quite a story, Doug. It's a lot of money, not mere petty larceny. Being Canadian, I'm no expert on the American legal system but when someone in the States takes the proceeds of crime to a different State - does that potentially involve certain agencies such as your FBI for instance? I'm wondering if the significant amount of money involved ($40,000) qualifies for some serious and free investigation on the part of police agencies? Especially if this guy has a prior record. You prob won't ever see a dime of your money, but he could see some time . Agencies are a lot better at finding people.

The fact that you are soldiering on now, despite this setback is admirable. That's such a great hull and fantastic boat. I had at one time, looked seriously at a 13 meter in Toronto that had a factory hardtop with sun roof. I believe that I emailed you about it. When I arrived at the marina to view it in dry dock, I was shocked at the size and shape.

I read your whole thread...I can't really help, but to say I hope you get back in the water next season. Sounds like you really enjoyed her along with dock friends and family. You were doing an amazing job on the ER & wiring!! Wow! The forum and the community is amazing with all the support and help...I've never needed and gotten so much help as I have since getting a boat!!
I was burned pretty badly by a mechanic also, but nothing to the degree of what's happened to you. Get those new engines in and get her in the water--hopefully you'll have some headache - free seasons of enjoyment. ..And I truly hope you get the SOB on some level!!! Mine got off Scott free and still probably chuckles when he thinks about me

Hi folks

I received some messages asking what is going on with my boat, so here is an update.

The boat and engines sat like this until the end of June
Image

Then we turned the boat around and put the engines in between the boat and the building for protection.

Although they were inspected, they definitely need some TLC
Image

Image

It went from 65degrees to the entire summer being over 90 degrees, I needed to also protect the engines as I work on them, so I put up this portable garage
Image

There is no way I am putting these engines in my boat without painting them, so let's start taking things apart. This picture shows the heat exchanger and all the cooling pipes already off
Image

When you have two motors, there is always one that needs extra attention. This is my port motor, there was obviously a raw water leak on top somewhere and caused a little rust
Image

Image

All the turbos are surprisingly tight, not much play on the shafts

One of the alternators was frozen, so I bought 2 new
Image

Now starts the grueling process of stripping paint with a 4" grinder with wire wheel. It was so hot under that tent, I got to admit, I stayed away for weeks, could not deal with it as all my friends at the marina were out on their boats
Image

Lots of aluminum on these motors
Image

I bought a bench top 8" wire wheel from Sears and took care of the pipes and brackets
Image

Well this picture really pisses me off
Image

I had to take more parts of to make it easier to strip. Oil filters, oil coolers, all fuel lines, fuel filters, and starters have all been removed
I also took the exhaust elbows, the intercoolers and all turbos off, this will make it a lot easier when putting the engines into the boat as well

Great to hear from you, Doug.

As in the past, you continue to keep a really good photo log.

I'm sure I speak for everyone here when I say that it's great to see that you're back at it. Lets face it, it's a great boat and you've got a lot invested in it, both financially and emotionally (like most of us with our boats).

Thanks for the update. Good luck with your progress.

Rick

P.S. It may be a sore topic but, any word on the mechanic who stiffed you?

Thanks for the well wishes Rick.

I am still fighting with the DA's office to pursue that piece of garbage

Well the boating season is coming to an end very shortly here on Long Island, the marina will be filled up with boats on the hard very soon.

Its crunch time for me this week, I need to finish getting these motors stripped and prepped for painting.

I am booked with the marina on Saturday to get my old blocks out of the boat and to set the new ones in.

If it doesn't happen now then I will be blocked in until the spring and that would mean I would miss next season too probably, so its has to happen

I have never really painted anything with a spray gun before and I am using this Rustoleum epoxy paint, so I am not sure how it is going to turn out.

If anyone has any comments or suggestions, I am all ears.

Considering I never used a spray gun, they came out really nice.

That paint is very forgiving and spreads evenly.

Lots of work to set-up though, in the tent, full suit, respirator, goggles, gloves etc
