Trailers for Large Boats

Post by The Dog House »

Does anyone on the forum trailer their boat, either in the marina yard or on the open road? What are you trailering and what trailers are you using? Is anyone using a "yard" trailer that isn't street legal to move their boat around the marina yard? Any recommendations for or against specific trailer brands would be appreciated.

I have a trailer that can haul up to a 36 X 15. I use is as a yard trailer for storage, but it is a "transport" trailer, meaning that the boat needs to be tavel lifted on and off. Can't slide it off on a boat ramp.

Triple axle trailer, floating adjustable bunks. (3500 lb.axles -two forward hydraulic braking)
Tow mine to and from its marina slip every year at start and end of season. Hauls beautifully with my 1/2 ton Lariat 4x4.

My F26 sits is on a trailer because of the brackish water of the Calabash River. It is a pain to move the boat because of width of the boat. In NC you have to have a wide load permit to move it. My brother found out the hard way. The trailer has 3 axles.

I notice you have twins. What make is your trailer and how wide are the bunks? Do you have any trouble fitting the two shafts between the bunks? My current boat is a single screw, and I'm wondering if I move up to a twin screw if I'll still be able to keep it on a trailer. Our boat club has a launch ramp but does not have a Travelift. I would only be launching in the Spring and pulling it out in the Fall. The boat would be tied to the dock during the boating season.

My boat has twin Volvo Inboard/Outboards so no issues getting it on the trailer. The trailer has rollers instead of bunks. It also is not to bad to load on trailer with a buddy helping.

I don't see a lot of others with the twin IO setup.

Not going to be easy to find , and you will need permits . height can be a issue . If this is a one time thing , look at a transport company
