I had the same problem with my F-28. I took the lock off and took it to a locksmith, he made me 2 new keys 7 bucks. Finding a replacement that
fits is almost impossible. 8)

F32 Sliding Door Locks ?

Post by rossjo »

I just replaced the entire locking mechanism on my F32 sliding door, since the lock tumbler mechanism literally fell out.

I went to the locksmith - who didn't have a solution, but sent me to Lowes.

I bought a standard ($15) "Slide-Co" brand (http://www.slide-co.com) "C-1123 Keyed Patio Door Handle 6-5/8" Hole Centers" which matched the lock I had almost exactly. It is for 1 to 1-1/8" thick door, but my doors is really about 7/8" thick, so it doesn't fit well, plus the lock/handle is a piece of junk ... will hardly slide, and required the addition of a small washer inside - which then made the entire unit "wobbly" in the door. I could only get it to work by lubing it liberally.

Here is a 6-5/8" x 7/8" thick model ...

Does anyone know of a good, solid, locking handle mechanism for the F32/F36 sliding "patio" door?

I had to replace my lock a few years ago. I went to a door and cabinet specialty place and was able to get an exact replacement for the sliding door mechanism. I wish I had more details.

I have a replacement that looks just like what was there (not sure if that was original or not), but its poorly made, and clearly not for the 7/8" thick door.

I want to replace this with something that works well.

I am having a problem with the patio lock as well. Mine still works but when locking/unlocking I have to pull back slightly on the key, tongue out the one side of mouth, and wiggle before the key turns in the cylinder. The problem is I can't see any way to remove the lock works from the door. I've removed the side plate from the edge of the door but can see no way to remove. Generally on the inside you can pry off the cover and there is a set screw that releases the thru shaft, so you can pull the works out. What am I missing?

Yours is completely different (same wiggling/tongue action) from mine.

When you remove the 2 screws on the inside, the whole unit comes apart on the assembly I have. Its pretty flimsy ... On the side of the end of rotating lock "tumbler?" theres a spring loaded tab that pushed in to drop the rotating piece out (or assemble when new).

Pretty flimsy, and barely pushes the locking mechanism up when new ...
